Plagiarism Policy and Retraction Procedure

PLAGIARISM AND RELATED PREVENTIVE PROCEDURES

The Eastern Ukrainian Medical Journal does not tolerate any form of plagiarism. The journal considers plagiarism or self-plagiarism to be a serious form of scientific misconduct.

Editors check all submissions for plagiarism of text and graphics using the following online platforms: StrikePlagiarism, Grammarly, Google images. Authors should ensure that their manuscripts do not contain copied text, graphs, or figures. They must state that no part of the manuscript has been copied or published in another source.

If plagiarism is detected in a published article, the editors send a notice to the author that the article is to be retracted. In case repeated plagiarism is detected in an article of the author previously convicted of plagiarism, the editors reject the manuscript and ban the author from further submission of manuscripts to the Eastern Ukrainian Medical Journal as author or co-author.

ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING DUPLICATES AND SECONDARY PUBLICATIONS

Submission of articles already published elsewhere in whole or in part is unacceptable. The editors may consider secondary (ethical) publication of highly valuable articles of great interest to the Journal readership (with the official permissions of the primary and secondary document publishers), provided that adherence to related recommendations of global editorial associations is ensured.

RETRACTION

The editorial board may initiate the retraction process after the article has been published, if scientific misconduct was established, in particular:

  • academic plagiarism and/or incorrect references discovered after publication;
  • duplication of a published article in several journals;
  • detection of falsification or fabrication of research results;
  • detection of critical errors, shortcomings, etc. in the paper, in particular, in the methodology of research conduct or research results processing and interpretation, etc.;
  • manipulation of authorship, namely, including individuals on an author list who cannot be considered authors based on their scientific contribution, or excluding individuals from the author list who should be considered authors of the article based on their scientific contribution;
  • intentional concealing of conflict of interest;
  • lack of the ethics committee approval for original research involving human subjects, etc.

The retraction procedure is held in accordance with the retraction guidelines of the COPE and editorial policy and necessarily requires an analysis of the actions of the editorial board members and/or reviewers that resulted in the publication of the article with scientific misconduct.
