Artificial Intelligence Policy

The editorial policy of the Eastern Ukrainian Medical Journal is aimed at implementing the principles of responsible, ethical, and safe use of artificial intelligence, as well as ensuring academic integrity and adherence to ethical standards during the publication process.

The editorial board defines the rules for using artificial intelligence tools and technologies:

FOR AUTHORS

  1. Artificial intelligence cannot be recognized as an author because it cannot meet the criteria for authorship or take responsibility for the submitted article.
  2. The editorial board does not encourage authors to use artificial intelligence tools and AI-based technologies for the comprehensive preparation of a scientific publication.
  3. The editorial board does not prohibit the use of AI technologies at certain stages of work, provided that their use is fully disclosed, and the results obtained are monitored and verified:
  • search for relevant sources;
  • processing large amounts of information;
  • improving the quality of the text (checking for grammatical, punctuation, spelling, and stylistic errors);
  • improving or correcting graphic or illustrative materials;
  • creation of graphic or illustrative materials for visualizing textual information, provided that the use of such technologies is fully described and explained;
  • translation of text.
  1. Any information generated using AI tools and technologies requires careful processing and analysis by the author.
  2. The authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and ethical aspects of the scientific paper, even if they used AI.
  3. If authors used AI tools or technologies in their manuscript, they should clearly state this in the respective section, describing which tool was used, for what purposes, and which parts of the text were generated/edited. Authors may also indicate this in a separate Statement/Declaration, for example: “The following artificial intelligence tools were used in the work: [names]. They were used for [specific tasks]. All sections written with AI have been reviewed and edited by the author personally. The scientific statements, conclusions, and results are the author's own intellectual contribution."
  4. The improper use of AI in writing scientific papers is a scientific misconduct, as such works have no scientific value and can be considered plagiarism.
  5. The failure to declare AI use in a proper way may be grounds for rejection of the manuscript or reconsideration of an already published work in accordance with the journal's editorial policy.

FOR REVIEWERS

  1. Reviewers are not allowed to use artificial intelligence-based tools and technologies, including ChatGPT, to review materials or create review reports without prior permission from the editorial board.
  2. Reviewers who have received prior permission from the editorial office to use artificial intelligence technologies must indicate this in the report, specifying which tools were used and at what stage, and ensure the relevance and authenticity of content, as artificial intelligence can generate results that may be incorrect, incomplete, or biased.
  3. Reviewers are individually responsible for the content of their reports; the use of AI technologies without permission from the editorial board, failure to disclose such use, or violation of confidentiality may be considered a violation of review ethics and the authors' property rights.

FOR EDITORS

  1. Editors should not upload the submitted manuscript in whole or in part, as well as any manuscript decision letters, into an artificial intelligence tool, as this may violate the confidentiality and proprietary rights of authors, as well as data privacy rights.
  2. Editors should not use AI-based technologies to assist in the evaluation process or decision-making with regard to a manuscript.
  3. The editor is responsible for the editorial process, the final decision, and communication with the authors.
